Marty Friedman, ex-guitarist of megadeth started doing j-pop as well. Google something like "Marty Firedman J-pop" and you should get some results. You might not find downloads, but information about which songs you can download

Finally, use MySpace Music. That one you can keep on checking every day and there might be another fanpage that hosts mp3's.

That said, it's good to support the artists, if you like the music.

yeah soulseek in my experience has been the best for more fringe-y tastes.
I got a lot of good Pillows stuff off there a while back...
