We need more single seats on public transportation

Anyone else agree?

There is just nothing better than a single seat on the bus or train for example, it's just the best thing there is.

This is why I loathe taking the bus.

It would decrease the number of seats available on each bus. Efficiency should take priority in a mass transport system.

Which why the car is so widely used.

Free of annoying passengers that intrude on personal space..

I prefer having more space to stand up than having to sit next to someone or having someone else next to me.

And if double seats aren't bad enough, you still have quad seats, now those are a f*****g nightmare.

It wouldn't be too bad if the seats were the size of an average adult. I'm a fairly slim woman and the seats are only just big enough for me, if anyone any bigger sits next to me they are halfway onto my seat too. Which is horrible and embarrassing.

But don't get me started on those who spread their legs and elbows as far as they can get away with!

A few years ago, I got on a bus and there was one seat that was unoccupied -- at least by a human. Some guy had his briefcase sitting on it. I'd seen the guy before, I think he was a grad student in Economics.

So I asked him if he would mind moving the briefcase. He got ticked off, grabbed the briefcase, and stood up holding onto the overhead rails until his destination while I sat on the seat where his briefcase had been.

I have no idea why the twit was so upset about that.

I used to have a guy put his giant luggage on the ground right next to me where I was sitting to block my path from getting off because I didn't say hi back to him when he said hi to me.

Too bad the poor f****r had to take his luggage away from me because he had to step off the bus sooner than I had to, I felt so bad for him because his true mission to completely nut me failed so miserably.

And then there are those who sit on the aisle seat when the window seat is empty which means you have to ask them to move to let you sit down (when the quicker I can sit down, the quicker the person behind me can get to the next empty seat, the quicker the queue moves onto the bus...) I don't get this at all! What is the point?

There is a point to it; the more space to stand up, the more people can ultimately fit in. We come from different places though; around here, if you get a seat then you can pretty much relax in there, having your seat space assured, while if you don't and must stand up, it can happen that you get thoroughly squished at certain times of the day (it gets to the point that it is not necessary to hang onto something because the people around you work as support.) I rarely take public transportation unless I can be assured to have a seat, or there is a reasonable amount of space inside.

But then the vehicles would have to be stupidly long. I think the two seater thing is fine, I just ignore the people sitting next to me it's not hard.

i drive a car and i never use public transport, so i would prefer that public transport be fully utilized so i do not have to contend with so many other cars.

I don't think I've ever seen a single seat on a bus or train. Sounds like it would really cut down the amount of potential passengers though, so I don't think any of these companies would be in a rush to do that. More leg space on certain buses would be nice though. I'm only 6.1 and sometimes find my legs being crushed.

They don't want anyone to sit by them. I don't either.

Luckily most of the times when I take the bus by myself it's a bus that doesn't get full so I don't have to sit by anyone.

Thank you for reminding me why I don't miss my teenage years. Between being tortured by classmates on the schoolbus and friendly, odd-smelling folks on the city bus, I'd rather just walk.

In addition to people's comfort, single seats with adequate space beside them provide room for strollers, shopping carts ( the little ones that elderly people use), and wheelchairs.
