Yes, when Johnny Smith wasn't able to ever reconnect with the love of his life following his emergence from his coma, save for that one night she came to him. Then he dies saving the world from the Trumpian character, Greg Stilson, but no one ever knows what had been averted.

it brings up a good point, that there are countless anonymous benefactors whose rewards are not of this earth in this time.

hypernormalisation

because it tells a cogent story of the last few decades, and ends in a cul de sac.

Another one of my favourite sad movies is Disney's Bridge To Terabithia.

I was just about to mention this one :) It's really good. Never expected the ending when I first watched it.

the incestuous subplot of "forbidden planet" was rather sad, in its own subtle way.

I found toy story 3 to be bordering on the traumatic scale of things, how could that deceitful entity dare to outgrow those unchanging faithful bastions of proper order and shed his slimy skin, what a crummy creature fumbled from snake oil, he should've kept them on a shelf and let them remind him of where he's come from, nothing can repay what those robust toys did for him, it makes me sick actually.

A Dog's Purpose
Kung Fu Panda 2- Explanation for this one was that I saw this as a kid and cried so much at the scene where the main character's mom dies that my mom and dad had to shut it off.
