one thing I hate is when people with accent are showed as being stupid and people with ''neutral'' accent are consider normal and smart. Just because some one has a ''neutral'' or non-regional accent doesn't mean they are smart or ''normal''
Yes. I have a hybrid accent ( Im from oregon) but it just annoys me on how people with ''non-accent'' act like they are so ''normal''

As some one with a southern drawl, I agree.

I always thought accents were supposed to be sexy

Who cares what those types of people in particular think?

I agree 100%. An accent doesn't define who a person truly is.

I am from northern California and I agree. It seems to be a standard movie cliche -- southern accent = dumb hick. I.e. the movie "Three Kings." I have relatives in Alabama (who I haven't seen as an adult) and as a kid I loved their accents, especially my aunts'.

I agree 100%. There were idiots who presumed that I was an idiot due to my accent. That all happened in Elementary School, though. I'm over it now.

Of all uncountable English accents I love most the Cockney way of speaking. I hear it differently, of course, because I'm not a born English speaker and I always connect it emotionally with the musical My Fair Lady and the memorable performance of Stan Holloway. (I also fell in love with Audrey Hepburn while watching the movie for the first time, and this I have already confessed in the confessions thread.) There's also a place in my heart for the Southern American English. In my ears it sounds very romantic, or it could be that I have no idea what romance is.

here what I hate: oh let show a crazy racist christian and have him/her speak with southern accent.
show the tolerate peace loving secular person and have him/her speak with a ''neutral'' accent.

oh, I heard this on a radio show. The host was doing an interview with this stuck up fat lady and of course she had to have
a southern accent. God forbid she would had a ''neutral'' accent.

pisses me off: a smart.educated, tolerate person has a ''neutral'' accent
and dumb, uneducated, hateful person has a southern accent

also the stoner and ''blonde girl'' accent (like omg) is always alot time shown in bad light too.
all the stuck up and rude girls speak with a ''blonde girl'' accent
and the dumb and dropout student speak with a ''stoner'' accent (whoaa dude)
and of course the smart, honor roll student speak with a ''neutral'' accent

Yeah, when we lived up in DC for that year after we got married folks thought I was the dumbest thing they had ever met when I spoke. Yes, I have a very thick Southern accent. That does not mean I'm stupid. Oddly enough, this one girl I worked with who had originally thought I was the dumbest thing she ever met at first, ended up paying me to write her school reports for her so she could pass her senior year.
