Baseball. It's all about baseball statistics and home run distances, for me. American Football is great when my team is winning,. though I hated watching it as a kid.

I put "other", because my favourite sport is indeed karate at the moment, with football in second place. :D

My favorite sport is American football, but the depth of my enthusiasm is such that I can get up to use the bathroom on fourth down with 1 yard to the goal for the team that is four points behind with 17 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

What I like about it is the complexity of the play decisions. The merely athletic part of it doesn't interest me much, except that I'm always impressed at the courage to slam oneself into another at a speed that would destroy a car if both were driving cars. I can tell you the names of five of the Minnesota Vikings, but that's it.

As for other sports:
Baseball = two men playing catch with a man standing between them holding a stick. If the man with the stick hits the ball, some other players do some things that might be interesting, but all too often, it's just one outfielder chasing the ball that went far past him while the batter waddles around the bases. Baseball is more interesting played on natural turf, because then you can watch the grass when nothing else is going on.

Basketball = Man taller than the top of the basketball hoop runs to one of the end of the court and shoves the ball through the hoop. Then another man does the same thing in the opposite direction. Every five minutes or so one of them makes a mistake, which makes it possible for the game to end with one team ahead of the other. There used to be a rule requiring players to bounce the ball off the floor when taking steps. The tall men who shove the ball in the net are now entirely exempt from that rule.

Soccer = ball is moved in what mathematicians call a random walk. At unpredictable intervals the ball ends up in a net, and half the people there cheer. The interval can be any period from three hours to five days. If the fans for one side are offensively happy, a human sacrifice must be made.

Golf = "A good walk spoiled." --somebody who wasn't actually Mark Twain.

Automobile racing = Drivers go around track at dangerous speeds only inches apart. Bored spectators hope somebody will crash and die.

Bicycle racing = Competitors race to see who can get the most steroids into their muscles and then out of their blood within the allotted time.

Volleyball = Females with perfect bodies do some things, but who cares exactly what?

Rugby. I'm fine with both sevens and fifteens.

Although the complexity of American football when it comes to plays is interesting (one who picks a certain play should not be a complete dunce), I prefer the fluid, nonstop action that you can't look away from for fear of missing something. Rugby is that, but with violence.

And there's also a sense of companionship, even amongst unfamiliar teams. I was dropped into a division one team that was down a couple of players, and I instantly felt welcomed (which is hard for an Aspie to feel). I had no problems falling into their routines and playing style, but then I realized how scary my own team really was...

My favorite sport is dancing (especially the Dance Dance Revolution version of it), though figure skating is a nearly-overlapping second.

I don't much care for sports, but I picked American football. SEC to be precise. Roll Tide Roll!
