I have never enjoyed playing or watching sports. I get no excitement from watching people throw, kick or hit a ball across a field while other people try to stop them. I can't relate to and am sometimes confused or even frightened by how excited, happy or angry some other people become when watching these things.
The closest thing to sport that I enjoy would be the Unlimited-class races at the National Championship Air Races held every September since 1964 in Reno, Nevada. I attended several times in the 1970s and 1990s but haven't attended for a long time now. It is thrilling to hear the sound of those finely-tuned engines generating two or three thousand horsepower propelling those planes at speeds up to five hundred miles an hour around an eight or nine mile course. These are usually highly-modified vintage warbirds (World War II era fighter planes) and are faster now seventy years later than they were when they were brand-new.
