How to take photos for OKCupid & Dating Sites

Pictures - Pictures are one of the most important aspects, if not the most important aspect of OkCupid. How you take a photo and how you appear in the photo, do you want to appear intense, serious or fun to be around, happy? Do you want to come across with social value in your photos? These are all questions you should be asking when taking a photo for OkCupid.

Think for a second, women take a lot of effort into taking photos and making themselves look attractive? As guys, we should be making a good effort to uphold our appearance and body image. I see that many guys complain but they don't have a decent set of photos and they aren't willing to accept advice either. Get over yourself and take some photos with the advice given here.

Here's a photo I took, notice I am dressed particularly well, I am well groomed and I have an intense look.


If you want to portray a fun image, take a photo of you doing something you enjoy. So you don't have many friends, here are some examples of where you might find activity photos but before them, you need to work on your display photos and making the most of your image.

Wedding
Art Class
Beach
Club
Playing Pool or darts

Just take some photos of you playing or doing something fun, it doesn't even matter if it's with people you don't really know, just show that you are a fun guy. Most of all, take photos that reflect your character and ones that are true to yourself.

I hear lots of people on dating sites say profiles without full length body shots are a deal breaker, which I think is just paranoid personally, but I suppose complying might improve your odds.

I find it hard to get an ideal photo because I don't do many activities outside of work and I don't think my smile is very pretty.

They keep on asking for full body shots and they want to see teeth in my smile. I feel like a dork when I take a full body shot.I don't have one in my profile, rather on request.

They want to see if your whole physique is attractive to them, or they want to see if you're lying about your body type or not. They ask you to smile so they can see if your teeth are bad or not. Bad teeth are another deal breaker I hear. What a good life it must be to afford proper dental so they can judge people based on these things

I see this primarily on PoF. About half the times I read the forums there I close the browser tab feeling self-conscious . Plenty Offish indeed.

I understand those people; plenty of girls there describe themselves as 'curvy' and take close up pics to make you think they're slender or normally curvy only to find out later they're totally round like Obelix.

Yeah, this is my problem. I can't smile with teeth. My teeth are horrendous. They're white (duh, I brush them like I'm supposed to) but I have prognathism, so it doesn't matter how white they are, they still don't come together when I smile, so I just end up looking like a caveman.

Plus my smile looks like a molester's smile anyway for other reasons.

I am sure it is...

I just read an article about this on the Huffington Post. I can't find it or else I'd include the link. I was interested in it because I've been thinking about how photos misrepresent reality. So this was about how you're supposed to accurately portray yourself or else you'll be more likely to bomb on your in-person date. Like that other poster said about the "curvy" girls and the angle pictures.

As far as I can remember, the article said that you're supposed to have a close-up photo of your face while you're looking away, exactly like the OP's photo. THEN you also include a full body photo, but you have to be doing something, and you should be the only person in the photo. And I would add here that it's especially important for a man to be doing something in a photo because men in our society are supposed to be active, not passive. So maybe an outdoorsy picture? I would also think that a third picture that shows another angle of your face in action would be good. Maybe of you laughing or making a funny face. If you were NT you could do a toothy grin, but often aspies feel "fake" when they smile this way and then it ends up also looking fake. You could get a friend to tell you a horrible non-PC joke and take a picture right then, or look at an animal and make a face at the animal, or you could put on a funny movie and take a webcam photo of yourself if you could make it not look like a webcam.

I think online dating sites are fantastic for shy people, busy people, aspies, or just people who feel like they're "odd ducks." You may have some terrible dates with strangers, but it's fantastic practice until you meet the right person.

and dont forget to heavily editthose photos so they resemble nothing like your real self
