a realist notices what's going on & walks off because he doesn't want to get caught up in the middle of all that.

Deep inside I am optimistic. I just know everything will work out and I am strong enough to deal with anything.
However I get strong pessimistic tendencies when I try something new or I failed it before and I am keep thinking something bad might happen. I even have emotional outbreaks due to worrying too much. But even then the optimistic thoughts won't disappear. They are like a mantra ("a lie said 1000 times eventually feels like true"). I might not believe in them and see only bad outcomes but a part of me keeps reminding me that "it just looks so bad". And usually it turns out it was right

So it depends how you look at it. My inner personality is an optimist but it got a heavy, pessimistic overlay.

optimist
realist (depends or not applicable)
pessimist

I'm right in the middle, or "depends". And even more specifically than realist I'm a pragmatist.

The glass is half-empty, and its beverage is likely laced with poison.

I'm neither an optimist or a pessimist as I find both these views to be flawed within objective reality. I'm a realist and I believe that often the standpoints most realists take aren't empirically seated in the realms of logical thought, and are thus purely subjective. I am also an opportunist; while the pessimist, optimist, and realist were all arguing about the glass of water; I drank it.

A well-informed optimist... which pretty much makes me a pessimist.
