Nice shotgun if I do say so.

(It's clearly a political stunt, so here makes sense.)

Can't tell from the image that it's him or not but let's assume it is.

I can see the caption.
"See, President Obama is cool with guns but believes in common sense gun laws and doesn't think anyone needs a dangerous assault weapon".

To be honest I am more interested if he hit the target.

I was thinking the same thing.
Probably not.

Looks like a .410 or at most 20 gauge. 12 would be too much recoil for an inexperienced shooter like him.

I can tell it has ported barrels.
A ported 12 gauge with the light loads used for trap and skeet (#7 1/2 or smaller) won't have much recoil.
I was doing that at 13 and it didn't bother me a bit.
If it's a ported .410 or 28 gauge he really is a wus.

I actually agree with one of the posts on TTAG concerning this picture; political stunt or not, it does show our black president using a firearm for completely sporting purposes, which has a certain normalizing effect as to people peacefully using guns. Who knows, maybe he'll get a taste for it, stranger things have happened. I'll also give him, as far as these things go, he looks a lot more comfortable with that shotgun than John Kerry did on his "duck hunts" during his campaign a few years back.

Now if the Secret Service could only introduce him to the joys of pistol and rifle shooting, maybe we'd be getting somewhere. Presidential 3 gun anyone?

I agree.

Shooting is a fun hobby, and like any hobby, it can make you more interested the first time or you just move on to something else if it's not your thing (everyone I know that has shot has found it fun, even if it's not there thing).

Showing Obama shooting is a positive thing for the simple reason that it demystifies it from the ignorant (he's an icon compared to the usual commoner), and perhaps a person they admire does enjoy it -- it's reasonable and safe to shoot firearms. In the least, it'll make people who think "all guns need to be banned" perhaps think differently.

I'm sure he's of the usual "high-end shotgun shooters" mindset of no one needs an AR or AK, though.

As an aside, it looks like a Browning to me.

Even if he does like guns he probably will never trust us, the unwashed masses, with them.
Only for the more socially enlightened.
I'm being a realist.
