Sleep deprivation has a pretty good short term anti-deprerssant action so that maybe a factor.

After 24 hours your body's circadian rhythm kicks in and it will try to keep you awake because your normalily awake during that time. It usually takes between
1.5 to 2 days for me to get to sleep again in sich a situation.

The best idea is to try to stay up as close to the last time you slept (a few hours plus or minus) then sleep. Set your alarm clock so you so not over sleep.

My opinion is take Simply Sleep its a nonaddictive sleep aid you can find in stores. I have taken it before and made a big difference for me. But when you do take it I suggest that you set your alarm to wake you up on time.

I'd try to offer advice, but I've been up since sunday as well. Thought I'd get to sleep, but then the whole rejection situation occured, so not so much.

I don't know if there is a way to take care of insomia, other than just pushing through it and letting your body get tired. That's all I've ever managed to do.

Try some benadryl. Don't buy those OTC sleeping pills, they're the same as benadryl and more expensive. Also, melatonin might help.

The longest I was up for, was about 4 days with no sleep. I was hearing and seeing stuff.

I took 50mg of Benedryl just for that purpose and it didn't work.

Nyquil has doxylamine succinate which I imagine is better at making you sleepy.

Oh bother.....

I am dealing with sleep related issues myself. In fact I have been since around 20 December.

I'll go two to three nights absolutely no sleep. Then I'll suddenly fall off asleep, usually in my easy chair at some odd hour (when I really don't want to sleep). I'll wake up usually late in the evening or in the middle of the night. Thus, my circadia rhythm get thrown off. Then I am on this pattern for a few days. Then it's back to no sleep for a few days, and so on and so on....

The problem is is this is taking a toll on my system. I tried all of the common OTC remedies and none worked. In the past when I have had similar problems (not as bad as this) my doctor prescribed some different medicines but two didn't work at all and one put me out for two days and I was sick for a week afterwards. I reduced the dose to half and then 1/4 and it still made me sick. So the only medication that works makes me sick. Ugh! So the medication route is useless.

I have tried the stay up 24 hr+ to reset my rhythm but I usually either get sick and have to lie down (in which case I go to sleep) or I fall off asleep with out knowing it (did this on a bus once).

Right now I am on a wake up late afternoon evening/up all night, then sleep all day pattern (at least for a few days). I really don't like this as it exascerbates another issue I have, seasonal depression. I find that I need natural daylight in order to avoid being depressed. Being that this time of year daylight is at a premium, ideally I need to be awake right before sunrise (around 8 in the morning). Unfortunately, I am waking up just prior to or after it goes down so I am getting no sunlight.

Also, these hours are limiting what little social interaction I do have, as most of these people are at home winding down for the day. Not to mention the places I like to visit are closed or closing (ie the libraries, the museums, etc). It also makes it difficult, if not unsafe to do any decent bicycle riding or go on long walks.

Anyway, enough of my rant, this isn't Speakers Corner at Hyde Park!

Any ideas or suggestions would be great!

There's this drug called Sominex... it's just Benedryl. The dosage isn't even different than a regular dose of benedryl. As a matter of fact the benedryl I have is better because it is liquid and absorbs into my system very fast.
