A lot of the people who look at the bootup time on Windows look from power on to login screen. But if you take into account how long it takes to get to a usable desktop after login you find that most other operating systems are a LOT faster.

The cheapest one that doesn't have that Intel GMA 950. It is $1099 w/educational discount not including AppleCare.

Nice. 17" screen, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, ATI X1600 graphics card----nice, very nice. Did you get Apple Care? I hope you got Apple Care. As a student, you get a serious discount and it is so worth it! http://www.macobserver.com/article/2006/11/16.9.shtml

Macintosh can burn in hell forever. How would you feel if you'd bought one of the Power PC systems only to find they'd gone Intel? That your entire hardware is not outdated and they won't give you the newer model for free? It's called BS..

Why should that matter? You can still use the machine, right?

Yeah, why does it matter if you bought an older computer? The Power PC computers are still great, still work, and still run all the software. That Apple switched after you bought a computer is not their problem. I was going to buy a PowerBook, but I wasn't sure. My indecision led to me purchasing my computer after the switch.

PCs are outdated as soon as you swipe your credit card; there is always some new piece of hardware.

Actually, I would've liked to get one of the G4 iBooks. I wanted a small little laptop that was durable and used good parts. I just don't get the impression the MacBooks are high quality machines.

I love my MacBook. I think its pretty tough; I've dropped it a few times (in my backpack, but still), and it still works. I love the magsafe power adapter and the processor. I am not very thrilled with the graphics card, but I don't really need a dedicated card. What have you heard about MacBooks?

It matters cuz it's like this, if you buy a computer and then later they don't just update the vidcard but the entire core system, processor is not only better but faster and uses a completely different architecture.. anyway you know you'd be pissed off, it ain't right doin that to everybody that bought a G5, if they'd really cared about people they'd make a G6 an use the chips in the newer model.

just try selling a power pc model now, it's worth less than garbage in the dumpster... might as well throw it away

That's just one of several solutions.
