Cheaper, you don't really need a quad core Xeon system to play games. (as a matter of fact it's hard to come up with things you DO need it for)
I have to confess that there is an element of "bragging rights" behind my interest in the Mac Pro.
Think I'll wait till there are 8 core machines though. In practical terms it's difficult to justify 8 or even 4 cores now but at least you've got some degree of future-proofing.

Quite want to experiment with Mac coding too.
