(Foreword: This might not look like an on-topic thread for "The Haven" at first, but the purposes of the Holodeck would often be to lift one's moods, and learn how to manage their life better. This would give readers an idea of what to do if an emotional pitfall happens in their life. If you still don't think this is on-topic, don't delete the thread, but please feel free to move it to a forum where it would fit better.)

Before the Technological Singularity, the Holodeck will come. Everything has to be invented before a technological singularity.

So when Holodecks go on sale, I plan to install one, step in it, and live a 2nd childhood. (I'll give more details about it on a separate thread, perhaps.

Since living in a holodeck full time will obviously take years, I anticipate an "aftermarket accessory" to purchase separately and attach to the holodeck: a "time dilator". This would create a time differential that would vary by being set by the user, but the maximum time dilation I anticipate will be: "A Year Inside The Holodeck For An Hour Outside" or "a year to an hour" so that when you're in a game or program that takes 15 years to complete, only 15 hours will have passed in the real world once you command to the holocomputer, "Computer, summon the holodeck exit door." and step on out.

In the meantime, to shower and use the restroom on the holodeck, and sinks to brush, wash, and wash dishes, how will the holodeck plumb out the contents safely and cleanly? When you eat holodeck-generated food, will it really nourish you? When you have trash to throw out, how does the holodeck take care of that?

Whatever ideas & suggestions you have to solve these obstacles, please share it with us.

Also, how do you plan on living on the Holodeck? (And I'm sure many of you do plan this.) One of the things I'll first do on the Holodeck is to live a 2nd Childhood, as mentioned above. How about you?

Actually, can someone move it to the "Computers, Math, Science, and Technology" board? It's here: http://www.wrongplanet.net/modules.php? ... wforum&f=1 and I think it'll fit there better.
