I'll probably go with the quad-core 2.66GHz model (unless an 8-core model becomes available before lol) and make sure it comes with 2GB of memory. Probably won't add any other stuff like hard disks as I've already got more 700GB of HDD capacity here. That already is gonna work out quite expensive enough I think

That sounds like an Ok set up to me. Maybe an 8-core will become available (anything is possible 8) ) I have to make sure I have the money in my bank account first, I am nearly there. Apple are not cheap, but with the tax back I will save around 400-500 euro. I would love 3 GB, but don't have the money, It's too much for an extra 1GB. And I don't want a glossy screen, they are too hard to see.

The prices of Apple's screens makes me want to barf in terror, so I'll probably go with a Dell, something like a 2005FPW, OK, quality isn't as great, but they're still good and you don't go bankrupt in the process. What kind of work do you use computers for?

I mainly use it for graphic design, photography and music. The new computer will be more for home use than anything, nothing to do with work. I have a PC at home that's about 3 years old, it's going well. But as I will be traveling alot, I want want to get a laptop.

For the screen on the laptop, there is no extra cost. I don't like the glossy because of the glare. What will you be using yours for andy1976uk?

A mixture of general home use like; games, surfing the net, email, instant messages, music, watching DVDs as well as occasional 3D modeling stuff, programming, web-development, hacking into NORAD, uhm, I mean, "doing perfectly legitimate and innocent things with Telnet clients", uses are pretty diverse really.

All sounds great and very legitimate and innocent  I just can't wait, I am getting really impatient. What do you think the release date will be? From what I gather, it will be between 24th and 27th of March.

No-one seems to know, but I've heard a lot of speculation about March/April....would be kewl if it's was March 26th, as it's my birthday. :) I just hope Vista works well in Bootcamp because I do a fair bit of gaming.

I was reading the following on the Apple site-

Special offer: Purchase any Mac computer and Final Cut Express HD from January 2 to March 27, 2007, and receive up to €150 back via mail-in rebate. Simply choose the preinstall option and send the mail-in rebate coupon (pdf) back to us.

I am wondering does this special offer suggest anything, I am hoping it does :P I have not been hearing great things about Vista, what is your opinion on it?

Thanks doordoctor, I already fixed it last night. It made me laugh because my mother could not fix it and was freaking. I think It was that the battery went dead and decided to save everything, as it does with files. It took a screen shot and then turned off. As I said it was strange, but that is windows for ya!

They just seem clueless at times, but my dad is a programmer so he knows quite a bit. It's just teaching my mother some things, I am happy to teach her but I don't like having to repeat what I have showed her mutable times
I had to show her how to use my camcorder four times  You've just gotta love a trier.

Drooling @ thought of Leopard. Can't wait to get my Mac Pro in a few months. :P

Seems everyone's ditching windows these days

I'm hoping that Apple does with Leopard what they did with Tiger and ship upgrade CDs for a nominal sum (I think it was around $10-$20) to people with the latest generation of hardware.

lol lately about 3 weeks agoi, my dad also bought a 6 disk cahnger for his truck, we installed it, about a day later he has it in and everything then goes through the source inputs and starts cussing and yelling and complaining that its broke and to send it back, then i said nothing wrong with it watch this! (i took my finger, pressed the cd icon on radio/nav combo, cd music plays) then hes like ohh thanks,(i sometimes still laugh about it) ahh people these days,

i also a few weeks ago had to teach tihs same very person how to download a ring tone to a cell phone took him 3 attempts to get it right,

Yeah, it's ridiculous that you should have to pay for Mac OS twice within a few months.
A friend just experienced something similar with PC; he bought Acer Media Center with XP and is entitled to free upgrade to Vista  Home Premium Edition.
