Has anyone else played Sims 2 Pets? And is it lame that I just bought it? I was in the supermarket perusing the PC games section and it was just sitting there shouting, "Buy meeeeee! Buy meeeeee! Buy meeeeee!", so I did. At least it seems to have picked-up some good reviews.

I have Pets. I'm not for fueling Electronic Arts' greedy hands anymore though. As soon as EA buy a company they just churn out crap and stomp all over a good companies name, case in point: Westwood Studio's and Maxis.

Westwood Studio's:

  • Creators of the ever famous Command and Conquer series
  • Bought by EA after Red Alert 1 was released(or around that time)
  • Red Alert 2 turned out to be nothing like RA1, its full of silly crap like mind control dolphins and UFO's, where as RA1 was a wonderful game, tanks and APCs and the like.
  • As far as ive seen they just release expansion after expansion, i refuse to fuel greedy people's pockets

Maxis(namely Will Wright):
  • Creators of 'Sim' games (The Sims, Sim City, Sim Ant e.t.c)
  • The Sims 1 was great, lots of items and suchlike.
  • Bought by EA soon after the first expansion came out.
  • Countless expansions released with as little content as possible to FORCE you to buy more and more expansions(I was sucked in until House Party was released, then i saw the light).
  • The Sims Online was released, died soon after thanks to lack of input by EA.
  • The Sims 2 was released, with HARDLY ANY content(objects e.t.c), again, to force people to buy expansions.
  • Although a In-House developed game, The Need for Speed series seems to have gone the same way too.

This is where my deep hatred of EA stems, stupid corporate crap. Its like Microsoft releasing a new operating system with say, only and handful of new features, rather than a complete overhaul. Dont get me wrong, MS are doing the same thing, but not to the pitiful extent EA do it.

Another thing which didnt surprise me is RollerCoaster Tycoon, the first two games were developed by the amazing Chris Sawyer, i stopped playing after RCT1, cant really remember why. As far as i can see from Wikipedia it seems that RCT3 was developed by some unknown UK developer.

Another thing that pisses me off about the games industry is the laxadasial(sp?) attitude towards their development cycle, instead of "Lets make a really great game thats immserive and entertaining no matter how long it takes" its "Lets put the least amount of time and effort into a game so we can get it on the shelves ASAP". One company that 'seems' to be against this ethic is Blizzard.
