I think the idea is that it doesn't matter.

True nihlism means that nothing matters anymore to that person, more or less. It is a very difficult viewpoint to dissuade people from. What they do is up to themselves.

Actually, nihilism means belief in nothing. That is, you don't believe in any divine entities and/or you don't believe anybody has a purpose for existing. What it does preach though is that since there is no universal or divine purpose, humans are free to make one for themselves. It does not necessarily mean that nothing matters. It also supports the notion that humans have a huge amount of free will.

A person who is a nihilist believes that no particular course of action is better than any other. I'm too lazy to check wikipedia but I know it says that there.

Thanks. Now I can't get germans holding a ferret screaming, 'We are nhilist, ja. We believe in nothing!' out of my head.

The only nihilists I have seen were portrayed in a movie, The Big Lebowski. Great movie.

You don't come to a decision about it, it's more of a revelation. I don't really put my faith in anything, but "nihilist" isn't a badge of honour for me.

Do you think one who morphs into a true nihilist is more likely to

a. commit suicide?

b. act based on whatever is pleasurable for him?

c. delude himself into adopting some guiding creed or set of values while that is not his real identity?

Or some other variation?
