I would like to say that I also spend time outside with animals and I call this self-care or just healthy.

I would say it is a way finding balance and creating joy in life rather than a defense mechanism or coping mechanism, although I can see how some might use it to cope with a difficult time like depression or nuisance thoughts.

I am off for a walk with the dog now and hope to see/hear some birds along the way.

I'm glad Hellhole brought this thread back to life.
