If you could send a 'beacon' signal out into space to get anyone out there to come to Earth to save it; would you?
A few years ago I created such a signal. It was a pulsed signal of notes on the octave in increments of Pi. It was just an FM transmitter, so it probably only went as far as my own backyard 
but I was hopeful.
