Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

It's Churchill quote after British victory over Rommel, But i always had problem with interpretation. I do not know exactly what Churchill meant by saying "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

I would say Churchill was stating a turning point had been reached, that being the first real defeat of the Germans, but that there was still a long, long way to go.
