I still say "sorry" quite a bit, though not as often as I used to. Also, when saying goodbye to someone online I'll say "Peace to you" (usually) or variations of it - "Brightest blessings", "Blessings and much light", "Lots of love and light". It's almost become a ritual, my staple way of finishing any conversation.

Beginnings and especially endings of conversations invariably make me feel embarrassed - I never know when and how to finish.

I'm also very fond of the word "reckon." It's very useful when you don't know what to say. You can respond to almost anything with "I reckon," or "Ya' reckon?" :)

My usual response to something is 'typical'. Another is 'figures'.

I also tend to reuse the same phrases again and again, especially not long after i first hear them.

That's me too. I also use it when someone asks me how I am. Sometimes I'll change it to "I'm fine".

When I'm using in the context you mentioned I'll switch it up now and then. I'll use the phrase "that's fine" instead. It's either "all right" or "that's fine".

I used to say the word "what" every time I fail to hear what someone says. By "what" I meant "what did you say". I felt like that was a rude habit I had to break so I eventually replaced it with "sorry". By "sorry" I mean "sorry, I didn't catch that". I could've switched to saying pardon but it was easier to switch to sorry. I form habitual responses that can become difficult to break very quickly.

I use "cool" and "groovy" rather frequently.

I have phrases I use. They're mostly movie or TV quotes. I can't bring any of them to mind right this moment, unfortunately.

Mine are generally unusually-constructed expletives, such as:
f**kturtle(s), D*ckbiscuits, t***ysprinkles and c*ckshrapnel.

I say "fantastic" all the time...and not sarcastically.

I constantly quote movies in every day speech. When I'm joking around with my fiance (he is the ONLY person that can jokingly insult me and I won't take it seriously) I quote Monty Python and the Holy Grail e.g. "It's veddy nice-uh!" "Go away or I shall taunt you a second time-uh!"

I also enjoy quoting A Clockwork Orange (especially Nadsat), Amadeus, A Knight's Tale, and Full Metal Jacket.

I use a lot of German cuss words too in place of English.

And ever since I saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLX2tAPy0jU I've been saying "Kapooya!" a lot. :)

I often find myself saying one of David Letterman's lines: "...and we all know how painful that could be."

Yeah, I have these, too. They change every so often to something new. Could be movie/pop culture quotes, could be song lyrics, might have picked up a word or phrase at total random.. but recently I've been using a few phrases & words I've picked up from one of my closest friends. Mostly "awesome," & "cool," or some variation of them. He and I both use the word awesome quite a bit now, and I've noticed this before.. even in the negative as "not awesome," or "not so awesome," vs. using a different word.

(old thread)

"Excellent!"

"I'm not sure."

"...absolutely..." as in "there's absolutely nothing".

The funny thing is with me, I often use idioms, but I don't know what they actually mean for the most part. I have just learned when to use them.

I used to do this a lot - and it frequently got me into trouble because I would say things without knowing the meaning and cause offense. And, as a child, when this happened, it would invite punishment.

These days I look idioms up on Urban Dictionary when I realize I'm using a term without knowing what it means.
