far more accurate than anyone needs, the days will be a whole heck of a lot shorter by the time it looses any time.

the planets vary more in their orbits than it does.

plus - even with this accuracy, everyone I know will still be late to everything I go to.

Did you know that they have to reset the master clock about 1 second ever 3-4 years because the earth wobble in it's orbit. Although everyone is aware of leap-year. Most people are unaware of leap-second.

yes, this was my point - why have a clock more accurate than needed, we have to reset the clock periodically just to match our real life experience anyway.

Time accuracy is so ridiculously important when dealing with relativistic physics that even the teeniest tiniest error can send your results so far off as to be unrecognizable. This will improve all manner of technology that relies on special relativity such as GPS, weather tracking and modeling, inertial guidance systems, linear accelerators (including those used in cancer treatment), ballistics, long distance data communication and synchronization, and semiconductors.

Not to mention the improvements in the efficiency and accuracy of several fields of research.
