does anyone still have a turntable?

There is one chain of record stores in this area, I think 4 locations in the same city, that all still have a nice selection of new and used albums (vinyl) but I don't know of anyone personally who still has a turntable. I know of people who have hundreds of old albums in long rubber totes that seem nothing more to me than boat anchors, but none of them have a turntable. They all imagine their old 1962 Nat King Cole or Elvis Album is going to pay for their retirement some day.

My family has 2, though they're not 'old'. My mom says I can have one of 'em, but I'm debating on whether or not to trust my Abbey Road vinyl to see if it works yet... I'm skeptical.

I haven't had a turntable since they were known as record players.

I'm going to get one when I get my own place. Vinyl is making its comeback, and personally I prefer vinyl to CD. Or Spotify for that matter. Shouldn't this be posted in the forum for music, btw?

As long as there is a new, quality stylus on the turntable what is the harm in enjoying some vintage vinyl. For my use, the sound quality from my computer and my JVC headphones is more than adequate. I do see turntable, all-in-ones and associated accessories still on the market for those who collect and like to listen to music on vinyl.

Yep, nice Denon turntable just to my right and a selection of albums to play on it. After Cds came out in 1984 I spent a fortune converting my collection to digital media but a select few of the albums were never available. One day I may convert them to FLAC, but not yet

My dad has one but he only seldom uses it. My uncle is good with fixing up audio quality of records & putting em on CD so my dad been having him do alittle at a time. I think a record player to a CD or digital media player is like a cassette player to CD or digital media player; songs get scratchy & sound quality isn't as good even when they're in mint condition.

Ah, you see, it's very nearly ruined both cds and cassettes. In fact I think it HAS ruined at least one of each.

I'm just a little worried about risking one of my most favourites- if not my favourite- albums of all time. If I had a guarantee that it would at least not HARM the record, I'd be ok with it, but I'm a little nervous. I'd use one of my mom's, but that's kinda unfair to her...

I have 2, but I'm a house DJ. I do collect old records though from the 50's - 80's, usually soul, funk, jazz. I love the sound of vinyl.

One of my favorite possessions.

I have an old dual that I use for 78s - an old radio shack linear tracking number that is not in working condition [needs overhaul] and a denon with a servo tracer tonearm that I use for transcriptions. I never listen to records, as I hate surface noise [hiss, groove roar, rumble, crackle etc.], I take records and transcribe them onto the hard drive [after running signal through CEDAR declicking/decrackling] and then restore them digitally, output onto CDR.

my aunt has one, and a closet full of vinyl, that's all i know.

in 2002 an isreali hobbyist took his flatbed scanner, wrote some special software, and tried to scan an old record in his collection. the results sounded vaguely like music IOW it needed much work but it was a proof of concept. I wish somebody had taken that to its end, and made a way to scan records. the closest anybody has come to that is the Smithsonian institution which invented a device they call IRENE [Image Reconstruct Enhance Noise Elimination] which they use to archive fragile recordings in their collection that are not playable on a conventional turntable.

There is one on top of our stereo gathering a lot of dust in our living room. It's a relatively "new" one as far as turntables go.
