I only swear when mad or when I die in a video game or messed up in it. I swore today at the game I was playing on my Nintendo 3DS because they made these levels hard. So many obstacles and enemies. But I finally beat it.

Its not unheard of for me to swear when alone, but near others only out of extreme frustration, anger or when quoting someone

I almost never swear in public. I did a few months ago though when I severely dislocated my knee. The pain was incredible and I let a few f-words out. It wasn't something I thought about, it was purely reactionary. I do occasionally swear after I've consumed large amounts of alcohol, but I rarely drink.

I swear like a drunken sailor whenever I am working on something and it doesn't cooperate. Doesn't help that years ago I WAS a sailor.

when I was in the army I was surrounded by a constant barrage of routine obscenities, and when the shite hit the fan the profane invective really got creatively foul. I never reached those heights of vulgar excellence, as I always have fallen back on the same-old rudimentary GMFD and MF and FS and SOMFB words in my times of trouble.

But I'm Aussie so it is part of the culture... nah, that's just an excuse.

None. I hate it, so never became any sort of habit.

I don't see the need to swear at other people; normally they don't do anything to deserve it.

I've always been a cusser. There are times when it's totally inappropriate and I can hold it back then.

All the time. I go through phases where it's worse than other times, but it's always there a little. I'm usually pretty good at knowing who I can swear in front of and who would be offended, but when I'm in my heavy swearing phase, I'll sometimes do it in front of someone like my boss or my grandmother. That's when I know it's time to back off a little. I wish I was as colorful with it as my brother -- he was in the Navy for 12 years, and learned to swear quite brilliantly. But I'm more white-bread about it. I just use the words you got in trouble for looking up in the dictionary in 4th grade. :)

EDIT: As far as swearing AT people, I've been known to cuss my brother to his face, rarely to anyone else -- unless I'm inside my car and the offending party is in another car who just cut me off in traffic. Then the barrage of language out of my mouth would offend a longshoreman.

A swear quite a lot. In general, to people, about people and a large amount in the car.
