Protesting plans for increased military presence in the Philippines and I don't blame them. Resources in the Philippines are already inadequate for native Filipinos. Military expansion may bring some economic growth but I think Filipinos are very familiar with the negative consequences of having more US military service members prowling their streets. The large majority of US military serving in foreign countries during times of non-aggression show little to no respect for local customs and civilities. The level of domestic violence will increase with the presence of more foreign military as well as the amount of sexual abuse against native women.

People hear about the reports of rape among our military that is being perpetrated upon our own female military members, well, that level is increased against women of foreign lands where the US military has a presence. It goes un reported and under reported most of the time and pretty much swept under the carpet. Lots of payoffs but very little in the way of criminal prosecution. Japan, Okinawa and S Korea are also well familiar with this syndrome. Sorry to say but there are a lot of US military who behave like savages when they think they will not be held accountable and when they believe their actions will never be known by folks back home. A lot of it can be attributed to alcohol use and a lot of it to the misbelief that Asian women are nothing but sex objects. I routinely watch western males in other websites boasting about their sexual exploits as they travel throughout Asia Referring to the women as if they are fruits and vegetables or cuts of meat.

And why are you telling us? Shouldn't you be talking to the Western Males that talk this smack?

Send female soldiers instead of males!!

Are there no western males on this site? I am western.

I think we should respect the wishes of the masses of Filipinos who do not want thi presence. And in S Korea there have been protests for a couple years over proposed military installation planned for Jeju Island which Koreans claim as a national treasure.

why do we need to occupy all these country's anyway, the need for all these bases is out dated. why do you need a base half way around the world when you can fire missles from the united states and have them get there in under 2 hours

The actions of some American servicemen brings shame to not only all our other soldiers, but to our country in general.

Increased US military presence in the PI would bring to them more revenue than anything.
Revenue = Good

Lets ask the Japanese in Okinawa shall we?

The governments of those countries apparantly gave permission for it. Not sure it's all that useful though. I think long term the US is better off to spend less money on the military and more on education or healthcare perhaps.
