Or, the difference between an interest and a SPECIAL INTEREST. This is strictly tongue-in-cheek - I hope nobody's offended :)

The Neurotypical way of playing Pokemon:
Catch some pokemon you like, train them, beat the game.
OPTIONAL: Catch some slightly better pokemon and train them.
Repeat until bored.

The Aspergers way of playing Pokemon:
Assemble or build a suite of software tools including
* a database in which to store info about your pokemon
* stat calculators and damage calculators
* spreadsheets
* programs that work out complex breeding chains for you
* timers and calendars to take best advantage of the time-limited features of the game
* a device to read and analyse savefiles and display the "hidden" stats
Research game mechanics and the way in which the game generates randoms in order to maximise your potential chances of breeding a pokemon with superior stats.
Install NetBattle.
Purchase a USB Gameshark and/or Flash ROM cart for the sole purpose of archiving your best pokemon on PC.
Finally, disassemble the ROM in the interests of understanding the mechanics better.
Repeat until... forget that, you will never get bored :)

Ironically, I have to stop playing these games because I know I GOTTA catch them all.
And I know the games will be huge and I'll not be able to find certain parts and then it will always be incomplete.
I have so many games entirely unplayed because they'll all take 70 to 100 hours to complete let alone collect all the bits I've invested in.

Sometimes playing games becomes more like work for me...I love them though.

That's not how I played. I exploited enemy pokemon's weaknesses so I could beat enemies who had pokemon several levels higher than mine.
