It seems to be safe. It's been approved for use in over 100 countries.

It's contraindicated if you have a chronic illness, or you're allergic to the vaccine's components.

I just got my second shot a few days ago. I got typical injection side-effects, but I'm not afraid of serious harm. I'll still get my paps, tho, just in case.

I'd recommend getting it if it's not too late for you to get it.

They didn't have that when I was young and I ended up getting cervical cancer.

So far I've been really, really lucky-- I even had sex with a guy who'd had sex with My Cousin The Slut, and did not get HPV. I'm too old to get the shot.

I'm going to have my oldest daughter start hers this winter, though (she's 13). She's getting them along with an ongoing discussion about HIV, antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea, pregnancy, and the psychosocial and psychoemotional benefits of keeping your friggin' knees together...

...but she's getting them all the same. Preventing HPV is a lot easier than preventing a teenager from making impulsive bad decisions.
