with older computers?

I refuse to buy a new laptop, because I dont trust that it wont break the day after the warrenty expires.... BUT i will buy an old laptop (800mhz) off ebay because I know i can fix it if it does break down the next month...

I've got a load of older 386-486/early Pentium systems, a few old Macintosh computers that I like to hack around with. I was trained with older systems, and I think they are much more fun to work with when they go down.

Newer computers are all plug-and-play and whatnot, and every part is made as an FRU (Field Replacable Unit..)

I am not fascinated with older computers because the newer a computer is, the more advanced it is.

I'm an older computer and I'm more advanced than anyone!

Yeah, I'd love to own an old 486 laptop that uses D cells.

No. I like things as modern and high-tech as is viable for my budget. While it would be cool to see what the older computers were like, I still prefer the XP computer I have now, as I can do a much wider range of things on it.

I knew of someone who had games on both an Amiga and a Commodore 64 based on American game shows. However, these shows have all ben canceled, so that should tell you that an Amiga and a Commodore 64 computer are both old.

No, my computers are always on the cutting edge. Each is a testament to what new technology can do.

Small and durable yet fast enough to do some very interesting stuff. You could even play Diablo on one.

I just replaced my old Dell laptop that I'd had and used daily for over 3 years. I bought it refurbished. By the time I replaced it, it had the following problems:
1. It ran so hot that I had to permanently prop it up on something so air could get to the fan (yes I had it serviced but that didn't make a difference) and also would get so hot that it burned up my ethernet card
2. The 's' key was wonky. Sometimes it would take pounding on it to type the letter, sometimes it would print out 5 's' in a row.
3. My cat freaked out and clawed off three of the keyboard letters, which happened to make typing difficult from then on
4. The cover/display was so loose it didn't stay still unless propped up.
5. Zero battery life left.
I'm sure there're more.
Now I've got Windows Vista and I hate it. In fact, Dell is sending me a new computer because the one they sent has too many problems. We'll see how the next one does. May have to revert to XP. Shall I begin my anti-Microsoft rant now? No, wrong forum...

It's amazing that old computers work so well, isn't it?
