There is the Westboro Baptist Church.

Then there is the Landover Baptist Church.

The first are a bunch of attention grabbing sickos.

The second -ive heard something or other about them before- but dont know much about them.

Maybe the two shouldnt be confused. Or maybe they SHOULD be lumped together. Dont know.

Lol!

Landover Baptist is a satire site making fun of evangelicals, it's not a real church.

Yeah, they're a satire site. Funny confirmation of Poe's Law.

THAT was it. I heard about them as being a spoof on the web.

So they are NOT the same thing as the Westboros.

OR

maybe they ARE the same thing.

Lol!

Landover was created to make fun of Westboro.

Isn't there a saying about a parody of fundamentalist religion being indistinguishable from the real thing?

I haven't heard that one.

Found it. Poe's law:

Quote:
Poe's law, in broader form, states:

Without a blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of extremism or fundamentalism that someone won't mistake for the real thing.[3]

The core of Poe's law is that a parody of something extreme, by nature, becomes impossible to differentiate from sincere extremism. A corollary of Poe's law is the reverse phenomenon: sincere fundamentalist beliefs can be mistaken for a parody of those beliefs.

It is rather convincing. Since 2012, I've seen around five threads on WP expressing disgust at Landover Baptist Church.
