I'd say that Crocks are a brand name because you can get cheeper versions of them.

I don't pay much attention - all of my clothes lose their (itchy!) brand tags before I even wear them for the first time so I don't remember what they were.
When shopping I just buy what feels comfortable and looks nice on me. The texture and shape is more important than the brand.
