I want to get a computer, but mum won't get one for me. I'm sick of using nanna's computer, as it's slow and won't play PC games. If I had my own computer, I wouldn't be able to get the Internet on it as I wouldn't be able to afford it. Can someone give me some advice? I need to convince mum into getting a computer for me.

If I had more money I could get a Laptop that would play old games, many of which are pretty damn good, and ship it to you. Right now I just don't have any money.

I tried making an account on eBay for my mum, but no confirmation e-mail came. Plus, mum can't afford to use it as she hasn't got much money right now.

Can we narrow this down a bit, what are you looking for? I do not know gaming, give an idea of processor, speed, memory. Is Nana running a Mac? can you upgrade the memory? Is computer control the only way they can interact with you? If you had your own would you go in your room and never come out?

The best way to get internet is steal it. Any public WiFi around? A Cantenna can reach a mile for a good line of sight signal. Do you have a neighbor you could borrow some bandwidth from? You will show up on the network, so it is best to ask.

Here dialup cost me $25, but a second account cost $12, now some is $10, what is Nana running.

In a lot of places free dialup through the Libuary, and now here WiFi. It depends if you live in a city, or outback on a sheep ranch.

Ebay is soso, I do better local with no shipping. I sell worldwide and shipping to Australia costs, or is slow, two months by boat.

Pentiums, and IIs laptops are cheap, anything from Windows 98 up works, but XP heals itself.

WiFi hotspots only exisit in McDanolds and Starbcuks here in Australia (and I think even they are reconsidering installling hotspots - considering no-one used them)

Internet cafe's - yeah asians here sell drugs from them - you normally have tobe in a prominet suburb to find an internet cafe.

-have you got any Cheapy nip computer shops around ya that sell salvage PC's? --you can get a P4 256Mb ram for about 189.00 now adays, and I have seen plenty of 19inch monitor on the streets . - I threw mine out and it was gone in that day, so I guess some people still want CRT's.

Ebay - ain't as cheap as it's made out to be - some people think that a $400 dolar bid for a P4 is cheap.

Trading Post is a rip-off - most people selling stuff their are people that assembled computers out of old junk and are selling them to stooges that just want a cheap computer.

New computer packages can be cheap ..
I got a P1.8 256mb with a 19inch Lcd for $650.00 -it's the fastest computer I have!

Well, I don't know much about computers, so if I had my own, I'm sure it'd blow up the first time I use it!

uhhh ,, hmm cheap PC with windows installed for an average user.. uhhhmmm I've seen them for about $700.00 at best ... but now that Windows Vista just came out I wreckon you cold go into a store ... maybe in the next 6 months, and if they have any windows XP computers left over - they will want to get rid of them -- get them down to at least $650 ,with at least 19 inch monitor

It probably isn't the best choice but.............. maybe... when someone your family knows gets a new computer they will be able to give there old one to you instead of tossing it... or sell it to you cheaply.....

Nanna has broadband. Unknown, I want to play games that don't work on nanna's computer, like The Sims and Command & Conquer Generals. Bazza, mum doesn't have a home phone, so that wouldn't work.

Blast, I went through three computers that could do that and gave them all away. I just gave one such machine two weeks ago.

I wish mum could get a new computer, but she won't.
