is there a linux operating system?
i have been hearing about linux lately and i have been thinking about getting it, does it cost any money? what are it's pros and cons?
can you please tell me all you know about it, since i really can't connect with my laptop so i would want to download it on my parent's and put it on my 120 gig portable hard drive.
please help me decide!

Download Ubuntu - the bootable version and burn it to CD... then just pop in the CD and watch it run ... if you like it - then start reading up on installation procedures and dual boot.... form there you will be able to run both what you have now and Ubuntu.

Some tips;;;

X86 = PC
Intel = PC
AMD = PC

-tells s your exact computer type .eg cleron pentium, duron 64bit whatever so that one of us can provide the link for the download.
