Speak the truth.

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32

Revisit the question: "What's so great about honesty?"

 Revisit the question: "What exactly is truth/honesty anyway?"

Lower your requirements/expectations of others?

 Expect mice to squeak, cows to moo, and humans to lie?

Can't beat 'em, join 'em?

 Accept that people are too stoopid to be accurate, so they just make it up so they're the hero.

Don't use people's comments as sources of information?

 Become president, ninja-push the big red button and give cockroaches a go at the planet?

Get depressed and cry?

Frankly that last option is the one I usually take. It's hard to bend my mind enough to make the other choices work for me.

That dirty feeling that spoils your spirit when you do something that you don't agree with. I don't know, when you feel like you've lived the way others want you to and not yourself, you feel bad. It frees you of the feeling.

Sleep with one eye open.

I'm usually correct in waiting for people who approach me to reveal their selfish motivations hidden behind a friendly smile and a lot of talk.

Find a different group of people to socialize with, even if it means alienating from your own family. Surrounding yourself with dishonest people is demeaning yourself. Find a new crowd. It is better to walk through life alone than to socialize with people who do not value integrity.
