Hello everyone. I'm new today so I thought I'd do a quick post.

What is your first name? Myles

Age: 23

Location: Bristol, UK

Hobbies and Interests: Music, Chemistry, Autism and how the brain works in general

Why are you here? Diagnosed with High-functioning Aspergers when 21 - my sister was also diagnosed with High-functioning Autism before me, kind of how my diagnosis came about

Favorite subjects: Chemistry (my education), Music (my passion), and quite strangely People (which I guess could also be my education as I am learning every day)

Favorite music: Too hard as I love it all

Books: The Northern Lights Trilogy, L.O.T.R, Higgs Boson, All Quiet on the Western Front, Cold Mountain, Immortal Machines, The Little Prince

TV shows/Movies: I don't really do series as they are too much commitment! Movies though yes, I have a huge passion for anime films and any animations

Instrument: Guitar, Piano, Voice, Drums, Clarinet, and I also produce my own music

Do you like sports? If so, which ones?: I do boxing! I also do a lot of exercise as it helps with my anxiety :)

Family: Mum, Dad, Sister, and Brother (who is younger than me and also a rock star! very annoying) also my dogs! And Kiki our cat (yes after Kiki's Delivery Service)

Clothing: Pretty eclectic taste

How did you find this website? My darling mother

Job: I actually have a sales job for a successful UK IT company

Plans for the future? To earn lots of money so I can follow my dream of becoming a professional musician

Any comments? I have read quite a bit on this website now and I am looking forward to getting stuck in with it. I will open up with you right away. I have had bad problems with anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember. I am getting better at dealing with it the more I learn about myself - and this is something I try and do each day. Initially I rejected my diagnosis but now I have learnt (after severe ups and downs) to embrace it and doing so is making my life easier with each day. I am recognising what I am good at and what I am bad at, and I play to my strengths and weaknesses. I still am rubbish at organising myself and talking to girls though!! 8)

In my diagnosis my doctor (a leading expert in the UK) told me that I grew up and developed my persona by studying humans and their behaviour, analysing it and then applying it to my situation. I agree as looking back it never really felt like it came naturally and that I replicated what I saw from others. I'm fascinated by how the mind works and the more I learn about it the more I feel I can help myself and others around me. Also I was really glad to find out that places like this exist where people can come together and talk about these things in a friendly environment.

So yes. Looking forward to both helping out and being helped out on here :D

Music has been my passion since early childhood, to the degree I know thousands of lyrics by heart.
I also like boxing and use that and other forms of exercise to deal with anxiety and general anger issues.
Diagnosed recently myself, at the age of 39 by a Uk psych who seems to be well qualified and has talked at conferences on Autism.
Welcome to Wp.

"We are convinced, then, that autistic people have their place in the organism of the social community. They fulfill their role well, perhaps better than anyone else could, and we are talking of people who as children had the greatest difficulties and caused untold worries to their care-givers.”

May I suggest you re-post this on "Getting to know you"

I'm not sure anybody on these specific threads are going to reply to your post

Hi and welcome to WP but don't be too blown away by the human mind. It's only that we consider it smart because we live in a world full of dumb animals but that don't mean we're smart. We're just the smartest (in our opinion) of a set of dumb creatures. Really, I think humans are too taken by themselves. Too self-impressed! 8O
