Ari Ne'eman, co-founder and president of the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, gives his speech at the 2014 ASAN Gala, last month:

Is it a good enough speech? If so, what is good about it? If not, what isn't good about it?

My farourite quote from Ar Ne'eman's speech:

Quote:
There are those who call such efforts extremist because we refuse to promote the idea that those with disabilities are intolerable burdens on their families or that the murder of their child can be attributed to a lack of services. If it's extremism to refuse to justify those who kill our youth, if it's extremism to speak out against our murders and demand the same justice from our legal system that would be delivered to the non-disabled then we're glad to be called extremists, but I do not think that this is so extreme.

Good enough at what? In order to judge this, surely we should understand the criteria on which we are to judge it?

Good enough at getting his message across I guess? He just wants to know what you thought of the speech, there's no stringent criteria to judge it against.

Good enough at representing the Autistic self advocacy movement.

The same criteria on which we judge other speeches by leaders of activist organizations.
