I have seen a range of opinions from WPers, sometimes from the same person even, running the gamut from we are aliens on a wrong planet to we are all humans after all. I would like to know how you view yourself most of the time in relation to other people around you and why.

I'm of the "we are all humans after all" mindset. I don't think having autism makes us superior or fundamentally different from NTs - after all, ALL people are unique whether they're autistic or NT. But at the same time, I have always felt profoundly different from everyone else, in the way I think, my ability to socialize (or lack thereof), the things I like and my emotions. Not just different from NTs, but different from everyone. I'm starting to realize that's not true and I have a lot in common with a lot of people. Wrong Planet has helped with that.

Obviously we're human (human bodies, human emotions, etc), but that doesn't mean there aren't differences in how we perceive the world that grow and shrink with individuals. Some people have all the normal human emotions, but the range and intensity is different.

I know that I think differently and I see it in all my interactions, so it's hard to simply view myself as one of the fold.

The differences are far too vast. It almost feels like from birth I was ejected from a space ship and left to live on planet that is completely incompatible with me.

I picked moderately different. I'm not like the majority of people with Aspergers in some ways. I do enjoy sports and being active. I enjoy mainstream music and even though i'm not a great talker, I do enjoy being around other people. Socializing for me is hard, I will admit that. It's just constantly motivating yourself to keep talking, I can't do that very well. Especially to the opposite sex who are around my age. I socialize best when there is an activity. For instance, getting together and playing soccer or playing a game. I also have trouble keeping on task and getting things done as well probably because I also have ADHD/ADD.

If it wasn't for my very short stature in high school, I probably would have not been bullied too much except for some of the black people who are rude to everyone. Being the pipsqueak in your high school gym class isn't too fun, especially when you're playing basketball. I get along with most neurotypicals especially if they like doing active sporty things as well.

As a lover of cats, I think immediately of the species of cats big and small, and how different they all are - and the whole animal echelon of different species, from fish to elephants.. But they are all critters. Like us! And the world is made up of variety, it depends on it.

I almost feel like a different species. I am more NT-like than some aspies, but that doesn't mean that I am NT; I'm a neurodiverse individual through and through. I'm an aspie with ADHD and various mental health issues; I'm a unique case.

Until recently, I've always felt like I was the "odd man out" in everything.

Relatively recently, however, I've been able to adjust to my eccentric nature vis-à-vis "normal" people. I yam what I am, and people respect me for it. If I were try to conform, it just wouldn't work out.

Not different at all, apart from symptoms of a neurological disorder that is.

Put it in the poll if that's how you feel.

My choice isn't really there.

I'm not "NT", but apart from the symptoms of an ASD, my personality is entirely human and within the norms of society.

Almost no difference, I guess.

I mostly view myself by looking at a downward angle, or in the mirror... whereas when viewing others, I just look outward towards them.

Most of the time I don't think about myself in relation to other people. When I do compare myself to others it's usually about something specific rather than being a more generalized comparison.....actually, I think the most general I get is to think about groups of specific and clearly related things.

I too.

When your perception of reality is fundamentally different, then that really changes everything.

As a teenager I was completely different from everyone else with no social skills, but I've since "trained" myself to be more "NT-like" and taught myself how to socialise. I'm still not great at socialising, but I'm better than I was at least, although I still can't keep friendships. In terms of emotions, interests, world perception, and dealing with sensory input, I am still quite different. -sigh-
