Today Nintendo finally bowed to public pressure in the U.S. over the North American release date of September 11th and has issued a response to qualm the controversy.

Quote:
Nintendo is really respectful of this date, but the thing is that when we launched Super Mario Bros back in 1985, it was September 13th. And, as we have worked with retailers on Friday as a launch day, the date worked out as Friday, September 11th for this year.”

Is it bad that I don't really care? My sister-in-law's birthday is on September 11th and there's nothing she can do to change that.

Maybe the US should just eliminate the date of 9/11 from their calendar, kind of like lots of skyscrapers don't list a thirteenth floor, even though they have one.

That sounds like a good idea. We can take the 11th away from September, and add an extra day to February.

Should we also get rid of April 20th? It's the Columbine anniversary, and also Adolph Hitler's birthday.

I think a lot of stoners would object to that. Removing 4/20 from the calendar, ridiculous.

They already get two 4:20s a day, they don't need a whole day for it @_@

It's releasing worldwide that day so the "NA" part is a little unnecessary.

But North America, especially Americans are bothered by the release date.

Yeah.

Some people just have to have SOMETHING to crusade against, dont they?

It gets just a BIT old, rather quickly. Sigh...

Jeepers, just because something is planned to be released on the 11th day of the 9th month does not mean that Nintendo (or any other gaming company) has some secret love for Osama and the terrorist acts he commited. Yes, it is very tragic, but I think it's time to stop mourning about it all the time. (Don't take this the wrong way, I feel awful about it as much as the next guy, but I'm just tired of people being offended so easily... :? )

Having seen too much about how these sorts of idiots work, my guess is that they dont think Nintendo liked what happened that day, but because they think it should be a "somber" day, it's not supposed to be fun, you shouldnt release silly games of all things on that day, you're supposed to sit in a corner and reflect on things with great sadness, blah de blah de dah.

....also some people just like being bossy and feeling superior. I'm sure that for a good number of them, that's literally the entire reason, not the meaning of the date itself. It's pretty annoying.

Is this some kind of late April Fools' Day joke?

announcement: "Super Mario Maker. 9/11"
me: "oh geez..."
