Unfortunately you just have to handle it - thats a philosophy a lot of people have. If you really want to assert your right to do what you want and handle your life the way you want to I'd imagine you'll have to think of a good rebuttal to that which is cocky enough to shut her up. Otherwise, if you really do need to go out, I think the thing you probably need to sort out is how you can get yourself to be at peace in certain places, what kind of self-image you need to project to yourself to feel comfortable talking to people, and I think that's something you kinda need to really enjoy that sort of experience - otherwise you just wrack up more bad and it makes you even less likely to want to go out and shoot pool with your friends, hit up the bars, go to a house party, or whatever else. If you have PTSD, just ignore her and realize that as long as your giving it all to get your head around it that's really all you can do - no matter what you try and tell yourself it still takes years to really make that dread anxiety go away and even at that its years of deliberately chipping away at it.

Same here, also though I appreciate exagerated comedy, too.

I used to watch a brittish show "are you being served". At first, it did not seem that funny, I needed "all" the jokes explained to me. But, as I "learned the rules of humor" it became more and more hillarious!

As a preteen, SNL and Weird Al where my main source of entertainment. (I still, at 30 listen to my sons Weird Al when alone, he is my friend).

We have a very dry news / politics show called this hour has 22 minutes. Very very funny stuff.
