What are your realistic dreams ?

Well, it's really more accurate to say they were my dreams. I wanted to play in a band, have a family, have atleast a solid circle of friends, and be good at drawing but they all fell and got smashed on the ground.

of those, the thing you have most control over is becoming good at drawing. can you get a sketchbook and practice? they say competency takes 10,000 hours.

I have a sketchbook but whenever I try to draw something, I end up trashing it because I either mess up or my creativity dries up.

that's okay. stay with it. also, try to remember that you are hard on yourself. maybe take something that you don't think is completely awful for a fresh opinion. let any compliments temper your own negativity. a russian novelist threw a just-finished novel in the fire, thinking it poor. a friend fished the novel out and had it published. it sold well.

I honestly think I am too old to learn anything new or re-train my brain. Apparently the brain stops developing at a certain age and is fixed until death. If that's so, I should just go ahead and put myself out of my misery.

You're never to old to learn new things.
And far from being fixed, the brain has been discovered to be wonderfully flexible, and will find new pathways if others become unavailable.
I've had to learn to do many things over again, in a new way.
Even when it's damaged, the brain can compensate.

Piffle, young sir. I moved to Switzerland at 36, and learned to speak German for the first time. Quite well, even. Come Spring, I hope to enroll in Spanish classes at my local community college.

The idea that we're only able to learn when we are very young is being disproven all over the place - you can be part of that too.

It's not that I don't want to. It's more that something took my life story away from me and won't let me write it myself.

Ok.
Don't really understand what you're getting at.
Can you explain?
