Arrgh, no offence at all meant to you, Starfoxx, but if I hear this term one more time I'll scream.
I don't even know what this means, doubt I have ever felt it or would understand if I did. I hear this term bandied about so much by so many people, like it's important, and I don't get it. Things are what they are. I have the same response when people tell me "you've had a lot to overcome in life." It is what it is, and that is all, there is no other emotional content attached to it.
Grateful, the dictionary tells me, is "warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received; thankful."
I have trouble with this. Just as I have trouble with being resentful or feeling unjustified at unkind acts. Those acts too are just what they are.
What exactly is gratitude?

I feel grateful that I have a home to go to. It's raining tonight, and cold. And I'm glad I have a bed to sleep on tonight--indoors.

I don't feel beholden or obligated to anybody, really.

I just feel grateful, that's all.

Loving God, Wife
....
I'm both grateful for things I have and things i don't have.

For me Gratitude is a a verb.
It is an action and feeling I often forget and or misunderstand.

It's fine if you don't ever feel it. I never used to at all. I thought the same as you.
I guess I'm just posting because I'm interested what everyone else things now.

grateful for being sane, functioning. i have a gf who does not hate me. i live in a country where i do not have to worry a whole lot about the guy next to me exploding, so that is a plus.

I'm grateful for the freedom I have.
That I have a job I like and can do fairly well.
That I have moved home.
That I am going to college.
That I have the ability to improve and I am improving.

Grateful for:

1. To be alive, mostly healthy and apt, and on zero meds; self-sufficient
2. A beautiful and understanding wife
3. Freedoms that I can appreciate daily. And I thank the selfless US service members who work 24-7 to preserve this
4. A decent job / income despite an irrelevant college education

Far from everyone is this fortunate; henceforth, I help whom I can when I can.

I´m grateful for:
Good health
Somewhere nice to live
Good friends and neighbours - and a bit of family
My interests
My focus
The way, my parents actually backed me up, no matter, what I wanted to do.

Off the top of my head...water. With little effort, I can obtain clean water that flows from a tap/faucet whenever I need it.
