My meltdowns got alot less frequent as I got older cuz the environmental triggers got better.

I think they can get better, but that doesn't mean they don't happen.

I agree with btbnnyr, if I read that post correctly:

Just as part of developing, you can gain more emotional regulation as you mature.

But also you can gain skill in avoiding or mitigating triggers and in emotional self regulation. For example, knowing that some sounds will drive you crazy, you can carry noise cancelling headphones and use them to protect yourself. If the summer smell is intolerable, you can walk or take the bus instead of the subway.

I don't know if I've outgrown the sensory issues themselves or just my reactions to them.

Often, especially when I'm tired, I'll be surrounded by lights and sound and smells, and I just want it to go go gogogogo away, but as a sixteen-year old, I suck it up, even though I'll feel dizzy and lightheaded, and incredibly agitated. And in a public place, I'll just sit there without even stimming, not talking to anyone.

At home, I'll yell and swear at my brother, the usual cause, and stim, but not have a huge meltdown, no.
