I'm not looking to pirate fonts, but if you know of any sites that are safe and have legit freeware fonts, would you point me in the right direction?

The last couple times I got a refurb computer, the fonts that came with its Windows installation weren't anything special. There were a lot of them, but they all looked pretty much the same, and I'd have been just as happy to have had a few different but varied ones.

Now I want to see what else is out there in my price range, which initially means freeware.

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

You should look into open source fonts.

You can find a lot of them here:
https://fontlibrary.org/

Thank you.

I've seen other sites that offer free fonts, but wonder if anything else might get into your computer along with the fonts you download. Plus, some of them might be just plain pirated.

I like this guy's fonts, especially his 'Resegokr', and his site links to other reputable font sites. His fonts are Open Source as well.

I second fontlibrary.org

They are not pirated. The 'free' fonts on fontlibrary are openly licensed as such.

You can also try fontsquirrel.com

Another good site is http://www.1001fonts.com

Also, if you want to use your handwriting as a font, another site is http://www.myscriptfont.com. It's also free.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Google Fonts. Even though it's "web fonts" you can download them for use as normal fonts too. https://www.google.com/fonts

http://www.dafont.com is ok as I can tell. How arts teacher linked us to it for a project and the school computers didn't get infected.

I would say that anything that's not an executable is fine for the most part. If you have a free font site and it's pestering you to install something, or the "font" is actually an exe I'd say look elsewhere.

Fonts are programs, actually.

......Who told you that? Fonts are just vector graphics (generally) with some metadata.
