I've had a rough couple of weeks with my stomach problems. I had a very bad flare up that caused extreme stomach pain and vomiting. I ended up with two ER visits before it cleared up.

I'm kind of at a loss for what causes this. The only thing I have to go on is at least three times after I ate a large amount of spinach my stomach flared up. I doubt the is the only factor causing this but right now it's all I have to go on.

I have an appointment with a specialist tomorrow. Does anybody else here experience a sudden onset of severe stomach cramps and vomiting and know what causes it?

Yes, they're you're favorite go-to salad greens — lettuce, escarole, endive, spinach, cabbage, kale, arugula and chard.

But they also caused 363 outbreaks involving 13,568 reported cases of illness since 1990. (Remember bagged spinach in 2006?)

Raw spinach can be contaminated.

Oh that reminds me. One of the times me and two others ate the same thing and I was the only one who got sick. So I have been able to rule out contaminated food.

I have a sensitivity to eating spinach. Ever since I was little, I've always gotten sick after eating spinach and never knew why.

It appears that the spinach just happened to be a coincidence. I figured it was a long shot that it was what was causing my problems but I was running out of ideas.

It turns out that what I have is called cyclical vomiting syndrome. No one knows what causes it and every thing tests normal so it's not easy to diagnose. The thinking is that it is related to migraines. The doctors described it as kind of a migraine in the gut.

Basically what happens is every once in a while anywhere from a couple of months to a couple of years I have an attack but in between there are no symptoms. The attacks come in the form of extreme abdominal pains that radiate throughout my entire body and I throw up every 10-15 minutes. This can go on anywhere from a few hours to a week.

The good news though is that it's not related to food so I don't gave to eliminate anything else from my diet and it's not something that can progress into something bigger and worse.

My sister had that I think. Not sure if she still gets it.

Spinach contains high fibre and if it consumed in more amount than can cause cramps in your stomach.

Nope, that too spinach is the highest protein vegetable. Except spinach, did you ate something else?
