What is that movie Class that you mentioned? Can you link to it?

I can think of a few more movies:

A Brilliant Young Mind
Little Voice
Simple Simon

Extreamly Loud and Increadibly Close
Wilipedia Article

Quote:
Daldry stated in an interview that the film is about "a special child who is somewhere on the autistic spectrum, trying to find his own logic – trying to make sense of something that literally doesn’t make sense to him."[18] When asked how much research was necessary to realistically portray a character with such a condition, he answered "we did a lot of research," and that he "spent a lot of time with different experts of Asperger’s and talked to them."[18] In the film, Oskar reveals that he was tested for Asperger syndrome, but the results were inconclusive.[18][19] As Daldry explained: "Every child is different on the autistic spectrum, so we created our own version of a child that was in some way – not heavily, but somewhere on that spectrum in terms of the fears and the phobias."[18] There are no references to autism in the novel.[19] Author Jonathan Safran Foer stated in an interview that he had never thought of Oskar as autistic, but added, "Which is not to say he isn't - it's really up for readers to decide. It's not to say that plenty of descriptions of him wouldn't be fitting, only that I didn't have them in mind at the time."[19]

It's difficult to discern the difference between a character with Asperger's Syndrome and a character that is being badly acted.

Think about it. Signs of bad acting include:

- Clumsily hitting the marks.
- Forgetting what to say.
- Stiff, jerky movements.
- Too much or too little eye contact with other actors.
- Lack of vocal inflection.
- Too loud or to soft voice.

Seem familiar?

I base it on
What does the character enjoy doing and hate doing?
What is he afraid of? And what do the other characters say about him?

A Serious Man has a side story concerning the lead character's brother who is brilliant, but so socially awkward to the point of it being disabling. As this movie is taking place in the 1960's, the words Asperger's or autism are never used, but I think the Cohen brothers had intended the character to have high functioning autism.

Not so sure about Napoleon Dynamite. Weird guy doesn't necessarily mean aspergers. Did the film makers say anything about this? In my view, we can guess all we want but unless the film maker actually says, I don't consider it autism or aspergers. No reason to assume.

I always thought Napoleon Dynamite was an Aspie, because he never made eye contact, had toneless speech much of the time, and to say he was socially awkward was an understatement. I thought the same could be said about his family, and his friend girl.
