One ad I saw rendered the Clash's song "Rock The Casbah," as "Stop the cat box!"

I interpreted a lyric in the Huey Lewis and The News song "Heart of Rock and Roll," as "the album may be barely breathing." The true lyric is, "the old boy may be barely breathing." By that time, vinyl records were being phased out, so I thought it was logical.

The most common I heard were the classic CCR, Manfred Mann and Jimi Hendrix mondegreens.

In the Police's song "King of Pain," I misheard "black hat" as "black cat."

This thread gives me a great idea for a speech in Toastmasters. Thank you for the Wiki article!

I used to think the chorus line of Rage Against the Machine's "Renegades of Funk" was "when a redneck needs to f**k". Until I found out what the name of the song was, that is.

The Carpenters "All You Get From Love is a Love Song (Dirty Old Shame)" --

I heard "Like sailing on a sailing ship to Norway"

Real lyrics: "Like sailing on a sailing ship to nowhere."

I heard: "The best love songs are written with a broken arm"

Real lyrics: "The best love songs are written with a broken heart."

Another one from Rock the Casbah:

I misheard the word "minarets" as "Memorex."

I also heard "Olympus" as "lepress" in Toto's song Africa.

A strange one, probably influenced by a special interest:

I heard the lyric, "We are, we are, we are but your children," as "We are, we are, we are but Jah's children." I listened to reggae a lot at that time, but that song wasn't reggae at all. Weird!

I think a lot of my misheard lyrics are based on personal special interests.

There's a song that we sang at my church, and one of the lines is "All the ends of the Earth have seen the power of God."
Well, I was obsessed with insects as a kid, and I heard "All the ants of the Earth." It made sense to me - I thought it was their way of saying every creature on Earth, even the ants.

I hate when people claim "Blinded by the Light" as misheard. It's not at all misheard, he's clearly saying douche, he just wasn't trying to. But we all clearly heard it.

Also I laughed at an interview with Ozzy where he talked about the misheard lyric in paranoid. He "I'm telling people to enjoy life, not enjoy life," but with his accent it sounded the exact same, like "enja".
