I started growing a fascination of linguistics, and I've been noticing how I pronounce things, so I repeat myself, pronouncing the phrase in different ways. xD

I thought it was called Perseveration thought I guess that is another name for it

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formal_thought_disorder

edit ok now I get it. It is more of a tic than a thought disorder

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tic

just that Echolalia is in both. Perseveration can include whole phrases.

Not usually, unless I am reading off my list of items at work and want to key in on the item I am pulling off the shelves.

Does anyone have the thing where certain words can only be said up to 2 and other words? Other words that can only be said 1 or 3 times? Some that only work 1, 2 or 4 times, etc.? Some word can said an arbitrary number of times. That is not all of them but each word has a natural sequence that you just know. Most words can be said once but some can't. It feels really odd to not do it.

i don't do this paul, but do you know what it just reminded me of?

the fact that one of my absolute favorite types of music are pieces that have people singing in "round" within it... that is people singing the same verse, but some are just a beat or few behind... christmas carols do it a lot.

I do it all the time when I write. I'm not sure if I do it when I talk.

Yes! I had no idea until sometime in elementary school, when a girl pointed out to me that I would say something and then whisper it again. Unlike what other posters have said, it was totally unconscious. I'll never forget that conversation--I was trying to deny it, and she said, "Look! You're doing it right now!" I wanted to die. Since then, I've noticed myself doing that every so often, although I really don't think about it. I truly hope people don't notice, because I don't do it on purpose and I don't want them to wonder what I'm mouthing.

I also have a lot of conscious repetition in my head, I think because I have a lot of anxiety about saying things correctly.

That is the repeating of the same word such as if someone asked me "How do feel?" I respond with "OK OK OK"

So THAT'S whats wrong with Joe Pesci! :P

Like Rihanna's new song "Umbrella, ella, ella, hey, hey, hey?"

Actually, sounds more like Jimmy Two-Times, in Goodfellas. "I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers."

I dont repeat what i say to others but i do when i am on my own. If i have said something especialy witty or amusing or awesome i can have hours of fun replaying my words inside my head to myself as they were said at the time. Whilst doing this i explore every avenue untill they are exhausted in order to fully understand the situation and to gain understanding of what impression i had made on the person. I get immense enjoyment from this and just about trip out. 8O

I've had that for years. Whenever I say something, I repeat it quietly (and involuntarily) under my breath. I had no idea I was doing it until my siblings started teasing me about it. My mom says it used to be really intense before I went on medication, but now it's calmed down a bit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this little quirk. :)
