Looking at all these violations, one thing is clear: We need greater accountability for the correctional system. The correctional system cannot be trusted to reform itself. We need a regime of surprise inspections, by people who are not part of the correctional system. I posted about a week ago another story, in Florida, where a Republican state senator conducted surprise inspections of 2 prisons and some of what he saw disturbed him:

I think death by hypothermia would be a pretty good way to go. Eventually you stop feeling cold, right when it gets bad supposedly.

Sorry, not really about the topic at hand specifically. I just don't particularly care if prisons don't make sure their inmates, especially if going to be locked up for a long period of time, decide they'd rather die instead. Suicide is it's own choice.

There are numerous defendants, but we have a statement from only 1, the private company that ran the prison. The company blames the other defendants in its statement.
