See how neurotypical society demonize and dehumanize autistic people.

"The Onion" is a satirical website; thus, it's articles are also satirical; therefore, don't take the article seriously.

It's funny because autistic people like trains.

I used to find Michael Falk utterly hilarious. Less so now. He gets some good lines though.

It's hard to describe him as "savage demonisation".

Oh, come on. I worry constantly about demonization and the impression I make. That was FUNNY.

I will spare a board full of autistics lectures about sarcasm. I get that we get that we don't get theirs and they don't get ours.

I will lecture that part of a healthy self-esteem is the ability to laugh at yourself. The ability comes first, and the self-esteem comes later.

You wanted awareness, public satire is one result of it.

The Onion stopped being funny for the most part some years ago in the same vein as Cracked.com did, it sold out literally

I found the 5 year old sketch somewhat funny. Comedy by nature uses lot of stereotypes and uses the most extreme examples.

This is very, very old news.....and I thought the video was funny, The Onion is comedy I doubt their intent was to 'savagely demonize' anyone.

i've seen that one before. it's hilarious! i think the actor is great

there's also this one:
http://www.theonion.com/video/autistic- ... ison-26712

i love how he shows absolutely no regard for the inmate. it's a white-collar convict, he doesn't deserve any. and then the last sentence in the end... absolutely hilarious

People who need to loosen up a bit, and quit being so serious....I am saying this as someone who spent a lot of childhood being uptight and serious when I wish I could have learned to relax and laugh a bit more earlier in life.

:)

also, for anyone who really finds those onion videos offensive, look at the whole context. the character is a surprisingly good portrayal of a believable human being, and he's treated like a regular person by everyone else in the scene. it's the nonsensical contexts that make it funny. the autistic reporter is the perfect element to make those boring and mundane situations incredibly funny. who cares about a random person killed by a train while trying to retrieve a woman's purse anyway! it makes the reporter relatable. people only say they care because it's what's expected of them. they do care more about their day being interrupted, and why shouldn't they?

in short, it's the opposite of offensive

Was the person in advertising?

I do love interesting animals, some kinds of people, whimsical expressions, but, rationally, I know they serve no useful purpose.

The autistic person can perform many jobs, but the Onion is like a pet rock.

I enjoyed it. I did actually laugh, although I know I wasn't supposed to.

But, who needs who, more.
