I am just curious; how long have you been a vegetarian?
About 5 years, I think. I started reducing the amount of meat I ate for a while before that, after watching a documentary on food production in a class in high school and saw how animals are treated in factory farms. I figured it would be easier to be completely vegetarian than to make sure any meat I ate was from animals that were humanely raised first, especially since I don't do the food shopping.
I'm vegan for 7 years, and I don't miss bacon at all! OK, vegetarian depending on who you ask, I find local raw honey is the one thing that helps my allergies, and it's probably the only animal product that can be obtained in a way that's truly symbiotic for both parties, besides the few people who have backyard chickens who they treat as well as I treat my cat. Even if bacon tasted better than sex feels, the torture the animals go through is unjustified. Male piglets are castrated without anesthetic, otherwise their meat would "taste funny", and anesthetic would be too expensive. And my ASD related symptoms are much less eating vegan than they were before, as long as I minimize processed foods. And I'm with you, that it's impossible to know if the animal was raised humanely, and looking deeper, it's virtually impossible to raise animals for food humanely in a way that is financially viable.
