Does anybody else just absolutely get dead from the sound of whispering? There are 2 things that will drive me to a meltdown, and they are the sound of whispering and the smacking smooching sounds of exaggerated kissing. A lot of people I speak to don't know what I mean when I talk about the difference between speaking in a low voice, and whispering; which often isn't even very quiet. Does anybody have any other audio sensory issues?

This is actually pretty interesting--so it deserves a bump.

I don't mind whispering, or "exaggerated kissing" myself.

Whispering doesn't bother me, as long as the person doesn't hiss the"s." That triggers a meltdown. Smoochy noises are kinda annoying, but I have no room to talk - I am a loud eater.

whispering only does my head in because

a) I'm feeling anxious and they might be whispering about me.

b) I'm nosey and what to know what was said.

c) The actual whisper is loud enough to be talking - I have no idea what purpose this serves

I can't stand whispering either. I find it startling and grating, possibly because of the emphasis on S sounds while the virtual absence of flat sounds. I get a threat response from whispering and have to get away from it.
I used to hear this in childhood, though I don't know if this was actually "hearing voices" and I somehow grew out of it, or my hearing is just so acute I was hearing noises from far away - but whatever it was, hearing whispering when there was no one else in the room freaked me out as a child.

I can't really hear whispering properly.
It sounds like psst-sst-tssst.
Which is annoying.
I tell people I can't hear them.
So they lean in closer to my ear.
Which is useless because I can't lip read them from there.

Whispering is awful, it's the main reason I couldn't properly do mindfulness training when I had a session of it.

I'm quite sensitive to people's voices in general, though, to the point of having a white noise machine to sleep.

I'd imagine that the people on the other side of mirrors whisper rather than talk.

I like soft spoken videos on YouTube, but not mouth sounds (smacking and stuff).
