Thanks, guys!!

In regard to the video: Josh Groban's voice can bring tears to my eyes, no matter WHAT he sings----but, him singing that song, REALLY gets me goin'! !

Here's my all-time favorite----it practically brought me to my knees, the very first time I heard it:

^^^
I warned people not to say your name in a mirror three times while in the dark.
But I did in fact celebrate veterans day. My maternal grandfather had been a marine.

More like someone accidentally solved "the box" and I came.

I loved the first two Hellraiser movies, but the sequels were crap.

''Remembrance Day''

WW1 Poem

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae 1915

My late father and my GF's late father both served in the US Army, even though both never saw any combat.

Yesterday, I donated blood at the Red Cross to show my thanks to veterans who have served the country and/or are still serving.

My father came very close to serving in Korea.

We might not believe in the "cause" being fought for in wars after World War II----but many people sacrificed themselves, nevertheless. Most of us, including me, cannot imagine the extent of the sacrifice. We must pay tribute to those who served our country.

The USA has two seemingly redundant holidays:Veteran's Day, and Memorial Day.

But they aren't supposed to be redundant because one (Veteran's) is supposed to commemorate the living veterans, and Memorial is supposed to be for the fallen. Two slightly different things.

Memorial came out of the Civil War. Got started by the women of the South to remember the Confederate dead. But then someone got the inspired idea reaching out to the women of the north to join in and it evolved into an official national holiday of rememberance of the fallen on both sides in that, and in every other American war.

Then came the First World War, which came to end on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the fourth year of the war (1918). So that day became important in both the US and in the British Commonwealth. In the British Empire countries it became something like what we already had: Memorial Day, and it is called "Rememberence Day". Commemoration of the fallen. In the US the same November Eleventh date became "Veteran's Day".

The creation of Memorial Day had the good effect helping bind the wounds and symbolically reunite the US after the Civil War. But once Veteran's Day had been created it caused a downside in the South. Like everything else in the Jim Crow era south the two similar holiday's became segregated. In the South Veteran's Day became a Black only thing, and Memorial Day became a White onlyj thing. Don't know if that is still true in South, or not. Hopefully not.

Memorial Day is called Decoration Day here and used to be a big event for families.Folks gathered to clean up the cemetary, plant flowers, share food, visit and remember those who passed on.It would be an all day event with relatives arriving from out of town.
Not so much anymore, most just heap a pile of fake flowers on the grave and then leave.

It used to be called Decoration Day in our area, too, in the old days. (Memorial Day)
